Stem Cell Quiescence Aging

Stem cell quiescence aging describes age-related alterations in the balance between stem cell dormancy and activation. Quiescence protects stem cells from damage by limiting proliferation. With aging, quiescent stem cells may become overly dormant or unable to activate effectively when regeneration is required. This impaired responsiveness limits tissue repair and contributes to functional decline. Conversely, loss of proper quiescence control can lead to stem cell exhaustion. Stem cell quiescence aging reflects disrupted signaling, metabolic imbalance, and niche deterioration. Maintaining appropriate quiescence dynamics is essential for long-term stem cell preservation and tissue homeostasis during aging.
