Paracrine Signaling Aging

Paracrine Signaling Aging

Paracrine signaling aging refers to age-associated alterations in local cell-to-cell communication mediated by secreted factors acting over short distances. In healthy tissues, paracrine signals coordinate regeneration, immune responses, and tissue maintenance. With aging, the composition and timing of these signals become dysregulated due to cellular stress, inflammation, and senescence. Altered paracrine signaling promotes chronic inflammation, impairs stem cell activation, and disrupts tissue homeostasis. Senescent cells contribute strongly by releasing pro-inflammatory mediators that affect neighboring cells. Paracrine signaling aging amplifies local dysfunction and propagates aging phenotypes within tissues. Understanding paracrine signaling aging highlights how aging spreads through tissues via altered communication rather than isolated cellular failure.
