Oncogenic Aging

Oncogenic Aging

Oncogenic aging refers to age-related biological changes that promote cancer development. These changes include genomic instability, epigenetic drift, chronic inflammation, and immune dysfunction. Aging cells accumulate oncogenic mutations while losing tumor-suppressive capacity. Tissue microenvironments become more permissive to malignant growth. Oncogenic aging highlights how aging biology itself increases cancer susceptibility. Understanding oncogenic aging supports development of interventions aimed at reducing cancer risk by targeting fundamental aging mechanisms.
