Neural stem cell aging involves a decline in the ability of neural stem cells to proliferate and generate new neurons and glial cells. Reduced neurogenesis is associated with cognitive decline, impaired memory, and decreased brain plasticity. Aging neural stem cells are affected by oxidative stress, inflammation, altered signaling pathways, and niche deterioration. Epigenetic changes further limit their regenerative capacity. Neural stem cell aging contributes to vulnerability to neurodegenerative diseases and impaired brain repair mechanisms. Preserving neural stem cell function is essential for maintaining cognitive health and neural resilience throughout aging.
