Mitochondrial Stress Responses Aging

Mitochondrial Stress Responses Aging

Mitochondrial stress responses aging refers to reduced efficiency of adaptive mechanisms that protect mitochondria from damage. These responses normally restore mitochondrial function by enhancing repair, turnover, and metabolic adjustment. With aging, stress sensing and signaling pathways weaken, limiting recovery from mitochondrial damage. Impaired responses contribute to bioenergetic decline and oxidative stress. Mitochondrial stress response aging accelerates tissue dysfunction, particularly in energy-demanding organs. Understanding this decline emphasizes mitochondrial adaptability as a key factor in aging resilience.
