Lysosomal Dysfunction Aging

Lysosomal Dysfunction Aging

Lysosomal dysfunction aging describes decline in lysosomal efficiency responsible for degradation and recycling of cellular components. Lysosomes are essential for clearing damaged proteins, organelles, and metabolic waste. With aging, lysosomal acidity, enzyme activity, and membrane integrity deteriorate. This impairs autophagic flux and leads to accumulation of cellular debris. Lysosomal dysfunction aging contributes to proteostasis failure, mitochondrial damage, and inflammation. Impaired clearance accelerates cellular senescence and tissue degeneration. Understanding lysosomal dysfunction aging emphasizes importance of intracellular recycling systems in maintaining cellular health and longevity.
