Liver Regeneration Aging

Liver Regeneration Aging

Liver regeneration aging describes reduced ability of the liver to restore mass and function following injury. While the liver retains regenerative capacity throughout life, aging delays hepatocyte proliferation and repair responses. Altered growth factor signaling, stem cell dysfunction, and inflammatory environments impair regeneration. Liver regeneration aging limits recovery from surgery, injury, or disease. Reduced regenerative efficiency increases vulnerability to chronic liver disorders. Understanding liver regeneration aging provides insight into age-related decline in tissue repair mechanisms and resilience.
