FOXO Genes and Longevity

FOXO Genes and Longevity

FOXO genes encode transcription factors that play a central role in regulating stress resistance, metabolism, apoptosis, and cellular repair. These genes are strongly associated with longevity across multiple species, including humans. FOXO activity promotes cellular maintenance by enhancing antioxidant defenses, DNA repair, and autophagy. Variants in FOXO genes have been linked to increased lifespan and reduced risk of age-related diseases. FOXO signaling integrates nutrient sensing and stress-response pathways, allowing cells to adapt to metabolic and environmental challenges. By coordinating survival and repair mechanisms, FOXO genes act as key regulators of healthy aging and longevity.
