Biological Age

Biological Age

Biological age represents the functional and physiological condition of an individual relative to their chronological age. It reflects cumulative effects of genetics, lifestyle, environment, disease burden, and cellular damage. Individuals of the same chronological age may have markedly different biological ages, corresponding to differences in health status and disease risk. Biological age is estimated using biomarkers such as epigenetic clocks, blood chemistry, metabolic markers, inflammation levels, and physical function measures. A higher biological age compared to chronological age is associated with increased risk of chronic disease, frailty, and mortality. Assessing biological age enables personalized health evaluation and helps identify individuals who may benefit from early interventions. It is a central concept in aging research and longevity medicine.
