Bioenergetic Decline Aging

Bioenergetic Decline Aging

Bioenergetic decline aging refers to progressive reduction in cellular energy production capacity with advancing age. Aging cells exhibit reduced ATP generation due to mitochondrial dysfunction, impaired substrate utilization, and altered metabolic signaling. Bioenergetic decline limits cellular maintenance, stress response, and repair mechanisms. High-energy-demand tissues are particularly affected, leading to reduced physical endurance, cognitive performance, and immune competence. Bioenergetic decline aging reflects imbalance between energy demand and supply. Understanding this process highlights energy metabolism as a central driver of functional decline during aging and a critical target for interventions aimed at preserving vitality.
