Angiogenesis Aging

Angiogenesis Aging

Angiogenesis aging refers to age-associated decline in the formation of new blood vessels from existing vasculature. Angiogenesis is essential for tissue growth, repair, and adaptation to metabolic demand. With aging, endothelial cell responsiveness to pro-angiogenic signals decreases, while inhibitory signals increase. Reduced nitric oxide availability, chronic inflammation, and cellular senescence impair angiogenic capacity. Angiogenesis aging limits tissue perfusion, delays wound healing, and compromises organ regeneration. Impaired vascular growth affects muscle, skin, heart, and brain, contributing to functional decline. Angiogenesis aging also disrupts adaptation to ischemic stress and injury. Understanding angiogenesis aging highlights how vascular regenerative failure contributes to systemic aging and reduced tissue resilience.
