AMP Activated Protein Kinase Aging

AMP Activated Protein Kinase Aging

AMP activated protein kinase aging refers to declining activity of a key cellular energy sensor during aging. This kinase activates energy-producing pathways and suppresses energy-consuming processes under low-energy conditions. With aging, responsiveness to energetic stress diminishes, impairing metabolic adaptation. Reduced AMPK signaling aging contributes to mitochondrial dysfunction, lipid accumulation, and reduced autophagy. Loss of AMPK-mediated stress resistance accelerates functional decline. Understanding AMPK aging highlights the importance of energy sensing in maintaining metabolic resilience and cellular maintenance during aging.
