Age Dependent Cellular Dysfunction

Age Dependent Cellular Dysfunction

Age dependent cellular dysfunction refers to progressive loss of normal cellular function as cells accumulate damage over time. Aging cells exhibit impaired energy production, altered signaling, reduced stress response, and diminished repair capacity. Mitochondrial dysfunction, proteostasis failure, and DNA damage contribute to cellular inefficiency. Age dependent cellular dysfunction affects tissue integrity and organ performance by disrupting coordinated cellular activity. Accumulation of dysfunctional cells contributes to inflammation and reduced regenerative capacity. This dysfunction represents a foundational layer of biological aging that precedes clinical disease. Understanding age dependent cellular dysfunction provides insight into how microscopic changes translate into macroscopic aging phenotypes and functional decline.
