Adaptive immunity aging involves age-related changes in T lymphocyte and B lymphocyte function. Reduced generation of naïve immune cells limits recognition of new pathogens. Aging adaptive immunity shows impaired antibody production, reduced immune memory quality, and altered cytokine signaling. These changes weaken responses to vaccination and infection. Accumulation of exhausted or senescent immune cells further disrupts immune balance. Adaptive immunity aging also contributes to increased autoimmunity and chronic inflammation. Preserving adaptive immune function is critical for maintaining immune protection and long-term health during aging.
