Title : From innovation to impact: Implementing digital health solutions for healthy aging

Abstract:

As populations age, enabling independence, safety, and daily functioning for older adults is critical. Robotics, wearable devices, and smart home systems hold tremendous promise, but moving solutions from concept to real-world impact requires validation, user-centered design, and integration into care pathways. This workshop, “From Innovation to Impact: Implementing Digital Health Solutions for Healthy Aging,” will highlight how the Centre for Aging + Brain Health Innovation (CABHI) an innovation catalyst helps accelerate digital health and assistive technologies for older adults. Participants will explore practical strategies for validating technologies in real-world settings, ensuring adoption, and demonstrating measurable impact on daily functioning, mobility, and quality of life. A featured case study will showcase Steadiwear, a Canadian company developing non-invasive, batteryfree gloves that reduce tremors for individuals with Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor. Leveraging CABHI’s funding, mentorship, and validation programs, Steadiwear demonstrated clinical effectiveness, de-risked the solution, and accelerated adoption, illustrating how structured innovation support can transform promising ideas into meaningful improvements for older adults. Attendees will leave with actionable insights on how to navigate the path from innovation to impact learning how to design, validate, and scale digital health solutions that enhance independence and quality of life for aging populations.
