Title : Cannabidiol as a promising therapeutic agent for Alzheimer's disease and delaying aging

Abstract:

Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is a common neurodegenerative disease that occurs more frequently in the elderly population. The onset of this disease is insidious, and the first symptom in patients is often memory loss. As the disease progresses, memory impairment gradually worsens, and other symptoms gradually appear, including aphasia, cognitive impairment, etc., which affect an individual's quality of life and even safety, bringing a heavy burden to the family and society. Although the etiology of AD is unknown, it has been proven that aging is closely related to the onset of AD and affects the pathological process of AD. Under the increasingly severe conditions of aging, how to delay aging and reduce the occurrence of Alzheimer's disease has become a hot research topic. Cannabidiol (CBD) is the main non-psychogenic plant cannabinoid extracted from cannabis sativa, which has been confirmed to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties, making it a promising candidate for treating AD and delaying aging. Here, we summarized recent progress in research on the use of CBD for AD and aging, analyzed the relationship between AD and aging, proposed mechanisms of action of CBD for both AD and aging, and speculated on future research directions and limitations. These data will provide a new perspective on the potential of CBD as a valuable candidate drug for ensuring health and longevity.
